Student Association members and SA President Larry Seivert have been meeting with Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs Thomas Wolfe every Friday morning to discuss the future of MayFest. Members also debated the merits of Syracuse University's plan to ship 100,000 books a year from Bird Library to a storage facility four hours away in Paterson, N.Y.. (Daily Orange, NY)

Dr. Donald, who was Charles Warren professor of history emeritus at Harvard, won his Pulitzers for "Charles Sumner and the Coming of the Civil War" (1960), about the Massachusetts abolitionist senator, and "Look Homeward: A Life of Thomas Wolfe" (1987), about the Southern novelist. The latter book marked a departure for Dr. Donald, almost all of whose work was on the Civil War, its origins, or Reconstruction. (Boston Globe)
