Iran's Most Wanted Aug 25, 2009
This would not be the first time that a criminal investigation has touched the men who stand at the head of the Iranian state: Mark Bowden has produced some persuasive if not conclusive testimony that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was among the hostage-takers and kidnappers who violated diplomatic immunity at the American Embassy in Tehran, and there are legislators in the Austrian Parliament who have demanded an inquiry into his role as a Revolutionary Guard leader in furnishing the weapons and money... Wooden Bullets Used in Peace and Wa... Aug 23, 2009
In 1910 they designed the hybrid 303 Mk VII, 174 grain bullet with a ballistic tip in which the first 3/8" of the core was filled with compressed paper or wood under a full metal jacket. The remainder of bullet core was lead and the resulting design would yaw violently on impact, circumventing the Hague Convention banning 'hollow point' or 'dum dum' bullets. The Mk VII was very effective and used in both world wars and was far from being a training round. The Soviet Union and the Warsaw bloc... (Suite101.com)
In a conflict we own the air - but for how long? Jul 19, 2009
Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down, writes in the March issue of The Atlantic: Our technological edge is eroding - Russia, China, India, North Korea, and Pakistan all now fly fighter jets with capabilities equal or superior to those of the F-15. As you enjoy the summer with your family, take a moment to consider how many attacks the mere existence of the fourth-generation F-15 has prevented and how many its obsolescence may now invite. F-22 still needed to secure skies Jul 16, 2009
As Mark Bowden, author of Black Hawk Down, wrote in a March article in The Atlantic, the drones, surveillance aircraft and other pieces of our modern force can fly Iraqs and Afghanistans skies precisely because of the air supremacy that superior fighters give us. This aerial juggernaut enables modern ground-fighting tactics that rely on the rapid movement of relatively small units, Bowden continued, because lightly armed, fast-moving forces can quickly summon devastating air... TV highlights, Friday 1st May 1, 2009
Based on the book by Mark Bowden, the first two chapters of this four-part series have been excellent but, in all honesty, it's the account of one of America's most spectacular military failures that we've been waiting for - and this outstanding chronicle leaves no wart unexamined. Preparations for the mission were exhaustive. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)

Gates' budget shakes up the Pentagon Apr 8, 2009
" Among the most notable cutbacks was the F-22 fighter program. Gates announced that the Pentagon would end production after buying four more fighters this year. Rumors that Gates intended to kill the F-22 - which was originally designed in the Cold War to counter Soviet air power - led to a lobbying campaign on Capitol Hill and in the media to save the fighter. A highly-publicized March article in the Atlantic by best-selling author Mark Bowden, for example, warned that F-22 cutbacks would be... (Asia Times Online)
THE ACCOUNTANT'S STORY Apr 5, 2009
The traditional view of Escobar, most widely disseminated by Mark Bowden in "Killing Pablo," ignores Colombia's political, social and cultural peculiarities that encouraged the emergence of somebody like Pablo. And Roberto is right to insist that in the poor districts of Medellin Pablo's significance is hotly contested; many still venerate him as an anti-establishment figure who distributed wealth from hard-living gringo yuppies to the destitute.
