Make Believe: Wild West Days  Nov 3, 2009
The inspiration for the shoot-outs, the gunslinging, the showdowns and the romance came from different sources, the comic books of Hopalong Cassidy and Lone Ranger, the movies of John Wayne and Kirk Douglas and later the novels of Zane Grey and Louis L'amour. With that software wired in, we took turns to be the gunfighter, a lonely rugged man with the harshness etched on his face, riding into a dusty little town on a long broom. (India Times, India)

A careful reading of Louis L'Amour, Zane Grey, Matt Braun and any of the other classic western writers, will reveal that lady folk are appreciated for their womanly virtues, but there are no explicit sexual scenes. Though even his fans didn't usually describe the late Yul Brynner's acting style as loose, this Louis L'Amour adaptation with off-the-cuff direction by actor Sam Wanamaker is almost as jokey as the John Wayne-Kirk Douglas romp The War Wagon. With a hat always on his dome, cattle rustler Brynner is pursued in and around Mexico by a friendly marshal (Richard Crenna). (USA Today -- Life)

    Damnation Update  Feb 21, 2009
Maybe that's just the main character, because we don't remember many Louis L'Amour books featuring leather-clad girls sporting hints of underboob, but still, the aesthetic definitely has something of an old-timey feel. Arguably the biggest area of focus, though, (the game's "message," if you will) has been the exploration of not just normal flat-plane clambering, but every level's vertical nature.
