Time magazine lavishly rewards journalistic malpractice Nov 8, 2009
The Post is obviously free to publish whatever it wants, but, wth some very rare exceptions, its Op-Ed page under Fred Hiatt now really is the leading outlet for neoconservatve and related right-wing advocacy. It is one of those outlets typically counted as part of the "Liberal Media" by right-wing self-victimizers and their media amplifiers, yet The Post's claimed devotion to airing a "wide range of views" is scarcely more credible than Fox News' "fair and balanced" slogan. Viewpoints: At health reform's moment of truth, time to take sides Oct 31, 2009
Or consider the remarkable exchange that took place this week between Peter Orszag, the White House budget director, and Fred Hiatt, the Washington Post's opinion editor. Hiatt had criticized Congress for not taking what he considers the necessary steps to control health-care costs namely, taxing high-cost insurance plans and establishing an independent Medicare commission. On Language: Bending The Curve Sep 30, 2009
Now we have President Obama, no slouch at seizing on popular figures of speech, warning Fred Hiatt of The Washington Post that "its important for us to bend the cost curve, separate and apart from coverage issues, just because the system we have right now is unsustainable and hugely inefficient and uncompetitive." In other words, as the bygone aviators knew bend it or crash. That led to the Nations headline "Bend It Like Obama," a play on the movie title "Bend It Like Beckham.". (India Times, India)
The Resurrection of Neo Jul 23, 2009
Although Obama shied away from saying he'd support scaling back the current tax exclusion for health insurance, in a earlier in the day with Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor of the Washington Post, he signaled some willingness to consider it. There's even that Blue Dog Democrats are starting to back off on their opposition to the House bill. (Slate)
You could no more argue with this op-ed than you could drive a car made out of candy. Jul 15, 2009
What is Fred Hiatt thinking when he allows stuff like this on his op-ed page. That the WaPo is doomed anyway, so there's no point in rebuilding its journalistic credibility at this late date. (Harper's Magazine)
More Washington gridlock? Jun 16, 2009
By Fred Hiatt - The Washington Post. For moderate voters clinging to some faith in government, the question over the past two decades of mostly two-party rule was: Can't Washington do anything. (Herald Online, SC -- Opinion)

Charles Krauthammer Feb 8, 2009
Says Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor of The Washington Post: "Krauthammer's weekly essays on the war on terrorism, bioethics, the Middle East and other complex and contentious issues cut through the cant and the muddy thinking in a way that many other columnists can only envy.". A column, says Krauthammer, is not just politics. (Townhall.com)
