The 2009 20-minute procession, which was held at both 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. so all kindergarten students could participate, marked six years of celebration and the conclusion of reading author Ezra Jack Keats 1966 story Jennie s Hat. We are celebrating the end of our unit and the first day of spring, said kindergarten teacher Karen Burke, noting that students donned their hats March 23 instead of March 20, the first day of spring, since students did not have school March 20.
